In this post I am going to show how to find a powerful domain name for your website.
Choosing a domain name is one of the most important parts of creating a
money generating website. At this
point I am not going to make an assumptions, I am just going ahead and give you
a definition of a domain name.
A domain name is a unique address that people type into an Internet browser
into reach a particular website. The structure of the domain name is a series
of alphanumeric characters, which are separated by periods. For the URL
www.wikipedia.com the domain name is wikipedia.com. The domain name consists of
two parts the main identifier wikipedia followed by the suffix .com, which
indicates the Top Level Domain (TLD) the domain name belongs too.
One organisation in each case (called a registry), is in charge of all
the domains that end with a particular TLD. In the UK the registry for .co.uk
domains is called Nominet. There are many different TLD’s below is a list of
some of the more popular ones:
· com - commercial businesses (international markets)
· gov - U.S. government agencies
· edu - Educational institutions such as universities
. info - domain is
intended for informative Internet
resources,
· org - Organisations (mostly nonprofit)
· net - Network organizations
· ca - Canada (country specific)
· co.uk- United Kingdom
(country specific)
.mobi – used for mobile
versions of websites
The com is the most common TLD and whenever possible will be trying to
purchase domains the com suffix, because we want to sell our products globally
and com domains are normally picked up international search engines. Also, the
majority of people who are not Internet savvy will automatically assume that a
domain name ends with ,com.
Believe me, there will be many occasions when it will not be possible to
purchase the .com domain you require in that case you should go for the net
extension if that is gone go for the org extension. If you want to rank on a
local search engine for example, google.co.uk then purchase the extension for
that country in this case co.uk extension.
When you choose a domain name there are two main techniques either you create a brand name which is un-intuitive, it does not really describe the product/service like yahoo.com or you can choose a domain name that contains the exact keywords that you would like to target, these are called Exact Match Domains (EMD), you can find out more about EMD's here.
This a major problem and can cost you thousands of dollars to purchase the domain you require of the registered owner, but I can show you away around this. You can added a prefix or suffix to a domain name. For example, if you want to purchase a ".com" domain name with the keywords passive income you may find that passiveincome.com is already taken. What you could do is add a prefix such as your, my, get, buy, try or the, this would give you domain name suggestions like:
mypassiveincome.com
yourpassiveincome.com
trypassiveincome.com
If you were to use suffix such as hq, city, express, group, direct, net or home, you could end up with domain name suggestions like:
passiveincomehq.com
passiveincomedirect.com
passiveincomegroup.com
